Sugary drinks

cola · energy · sweet tea
−29 min per daily serving, over a lifetime
measured · low evidence

What it does

Half a litre a day. No chewing, no fullness, no nutrients — and over a litre of it is normal in many places.

+1.1 to +1.3 years
from cutting 500 mL/day to zero · quality of evidence: low (5.5)

Where the number comes from

Sugary drinks sits in the ssb group of the Fadnes model, the only peer-reviewed model that converts eating into years of life. The lifetime gain for that group is spread across the days you actually eat it — a daily serving from age 20 to 80 — which gives −29 min per serving. The authors rate the evidence behind this group as low.

How to eat it

Water. That is the whole intervention.
